SOCIETY'S DILEMMA ON A SICK EARTH
That this situation, a situation where the world community must face a problem that seems quite serious. A problem that can tear apart the system of human life. Behind a fear of something that threatens the safety of human life, humans must also be able to survive, which is perhaps more accurate in today's life with the slogan "dare to live at risk". Maybe this is not true for some people, but it is true for the majority of people, especially in Indonesia, which is one of the developing countries in the world. Indonesia, which is located in the Southeast Asian Region, is also feeling this pandemic. Even though Indonesia does not feel that it gave birth to this virus, the spread of this virus is an epidemic, an epidemic of an invisible disease that is also being felt by the global community around the world.
That as previously explained, this pandemic is damaging the life system of the world community, including Indonesia. The education, political, economic, social, and other systems experience shocks, which greatly affect people's stability. Information about covid-19 becomes the headline in every news, both in television media and on the internet through the Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, and detik.com applications, Kompas, CNN as a news site, all of them are filled with news and information about Covid-19. Of course, this immediately created emotional worries in the minds of the people. Because even so, for example in a news site that specializes in quantitative data on the number of cases of covid-19 in Indonesia, that besides the public can find out data which is indeed official data about covid-19 and its spread in Indonesia, but also with data In this case, especially with the data on people who died due to being confirmed by Covid-19, some people felt extraordinary worries and fears.
That in addition to the invisible virus, the spread of the virus is indeed very fast. For example, in the first case born in Wuhan City, China, where only a few days since the virus was born, there have been thousands of people who died due to the confirmed COVID-19 virus. Also recently, India got a record of one of the most positive confirmed cases of Covid so that it ranks after the United States. Likewise, what happened in Indonesia, which may indeed be the situation in Indonesia is not as bad as what happened in India and the United States, but the fact is that the presence of this virus has indeed been detected in this country of Indonesia. Not only in big cities, even in small towns in the form of districts, the presence of this virus has also been detected.
That the existence of this virus, as previously mentioned, is capable of tearing apart human living systems. In Indonesia itself, the government forbids its citizens to leave their homes. In addition, the government also prohibits gatherings, because indeed the spread of this virus will be effective when people hold crowds. With the policies mandated by the government towards its citizens, making these policies means obliging every human activity to be carried out from the home to stop the spread of this virus. Education is carried out online, economic, political, social, and other activities are also carried out virtually in the network. That indeed what happened at the beginning of the birth of this virus, with the policy of the government, plus the fear and concern felt by the public about this covid case that was conveyed by the news both on television and the internet, the public obeyed the rules from the government. Major cities in Indonesia and some of their smaller cities comply with these regulations. Why does the author mention that, because, in fact, it does not apply to all people in Indonesia, why? Because there are differences of opinion in addressing this matter between urban and rural communities, perhaps more details will be explained in more detail on this topic at a later time by the author.
Returning to the previous discussion, that with these circumstances forcing people to stay at home to prevent the spread of covid, of course, as previously explained, it will affect the life system of the Indonesian people, especially those that will be the main topic in this discussion more on economic conditions. during this pandemic, both macro and microeconomics. In the microscope, of course, from industry both large and small scale, which of course if the industry experiences a decline in its production activities will also affect the country's economy. In addition to the reduced market demand which then affects the company's production volume because, during this pandemic, there is also a lack of labor, because the government has set a policy to prohibit residents from leaving their homes.
Then, next is about micro-scale economy, that what is meant is how citizens on an individual scale meet their needs during this pandemic. There is a policy that requires citizens to stay at home to prevent the spread of this covid, therefore a work from home (WFH) system was created. In fact, especially what is happening in Indonesia, perhaps the WFH policy can be implemented or will be effective by workers engaged in commercial or other work that can indeed be done online. However, this is only a small part of the Indonesian people, because the majority of Indonesians are field workers. That is why these policies carried out abroad, especially in developed countries, cannot be synchronized or fully implemented in developing countries, especially in Indonesia. That's why at the beginning this policy was implemented which was only implemented for a few moments by residents, suddenly after that, the policy received criticism from most residents. This means that there are pros and cons behind the policy.
That in fact what is happening, especially in terms of the economy, both at the micro and macro scale, creates confusion in the minds of the people. The first, for example on a macro scale, is in the industrial sector, where producing goods cannot be done at home, by stipulating that workers should stay at home, the industry will not run, and the economy will also stagnate. affect the country's macro-economy. Then on the micro-scale is that workers need jobs to survive. When their main job is lost, their family's economic system will also be damaged. This, as the author wants to convey, is "that this situation makes people afraid, especially because they are exposed to Covid-19, but they are also afraid when they cannot survive because of hunger". Of course, what the author feels is that there is confusion in the minds of the individual community in responding to this phenomenon. Industry must continue to run to maintain its macro economy so that it requires workers to continue to carry out the production process, as well as workers also need jobs in the industry so that they can survive. Such is the symbiosis that occurs between industry and its workers. But outside the symbiotic circle, they are always overshadowed by the fear of this virus, they try to survive but in fear, those who live are uncomfortable. But those who experience the fear and worry maybe only be felt by the workers.
That as already mentioned there is confusion experienced by the community, or you could say as stated in the title of the community's dilemma. People are afraid and worried about the spread of the virus, which in fact has killed many victims in Indonesia itself and been exposed to the virus. But they also think about their survival. They cannot stay in their homes all the time, which may indeed keep them safe from the virus, but they also have life needs that they must fulfill for the sake of their survival. As previously explained, maybe for a small number of people who work in the commercial field and others that can be done online can be done at home, but for most Indonesians, having work to do directly in the field, cannot be done at home. Like the industrial workers as previously described.
Apart from that, the others are also doing the same thing, for example, online motorcycle taxis, market traders, porters in the market, mobile and permanent food sellers, and many other fieldworks. This time, the author took the sample using field observations, especially in a small area in Jakarta and Bandung, as one of the big cities in Indonesia which has quite a variety of people's livelihoods. In this case, even though what online motorcycle taxis do is a reckless thing. It's not that they are against government policies, but they are also in a difficult choice. Online motorcycle taxis may be one of the jobs that have the most potential in transmitting viruses, both for the passengers and the drivers. Maybe at the beginning of the policy, when the government forbade citizens to go out of the house, the order for motorcycle taxis became quiet because of this, but when the government felt the need to take policies to maintain the country's economic stability both on a micro and macro scale, the government also gave a new policy regarding this matter. This is to allow residents to work to come directly to their workplace or office, but indeed by paying attention to health protocols to prevent the spread of covid. Then, be with it also slightly improve the economy from top to bottom. One of them is what happens to online motorcycle taxi drivers. But a virus is still a virus, something invisible that attacks humans. Online motorcycle taxi drivers continue to work risking their safety to survive, and vice versa, workers who ride online motorcycle taxis also risk their safety to maintain their lives. That's what happens in the field with the subject of online motorcycle taxis. The same thing happened and was felt by traders in the market as well as other labor workers, they were in a dilemma by the situation, where they were also afraid, but on the other hand, they had to maintain their life working outside which was a hotbed for the spread of this virus.
Finally, so from this article is the author's personal opinion and opinion about the current phenomenon. The author hopes that this pandemic can be quickly destroyed. The author hopes that the earth and humans can smile and be happy again soon. Amen.
